How to manage the proposed GST/HST tax exemption for non-cannabis products on Greenline POS
What is Exempted?
According to guidelines from the Government, the GST/HST tax exemption will only apply to specific products and most are not typically carried in a cannabis store.
It is important that you review the information provided by the government, outlining the products and product categories that are included in the tax exemptions.
Please review the outline HERE
Greenline is unable to provide you with recommendations of which products should be included in this proposed tax exemption.
We recommend following up with your accounting or bookkeeping team or a tax specialist for clarity on which products should be excluded from taxation on your product list.
If you have only a few tax-exempt products within a category, i.e. non-cannabis-containing beverages or snacks, books, etc, it is best to:
- Create a new tax group with 0% tax titled "GST/HST Relief"
- Manually apply that new tax group to those eligible products
Whole Category Tax Exemption
If you have an entire product category that you have determined to contain products that are eligible for tax exemption, please create a 0% tax group and give us your express written permission to change the categories.
Please understand that proper taxation, and in this case tax exemption, is the sole responsibility and purview of your organization.
Please send your express written permission and list of categories to blaze-ca-customer-success@blaze.me
